Bird Box Studio is very happy to win the Short Film category of the  2nd Annual Big Screen Animation Awards. Wildebeest was included in a fantastic shortlist of amazing films. It’s great to see that a film promoted only through YouTube and word-of-mouth has received such appreciation within the animation and film-making world.

Bird Box Studio have recently been working with Venture Three, bringing life to the logo of the best-loved publisher, Penguin.

Awards for the 7th edition of Filminute, the international one-minute film festival, were announced today with UK director Ant Blades’ dramatic and hilarious animation CHOP CHOP taking top honours with the jury, and fellow Brit Ben Jacobson’s comic thriller, CANDY CRIME winning the public vote.

The 7-member international jury which included Prasoon Joshi, Radu Jude, Arjun Basu, Lenora Hume & Gyorgy Karpati, gave animation its strongest year ever at the festival with 3 of the 5 Jury Commendations going to the animations M/W 9/11 (USA), A HERO’S TALE (UK), and  WILDEBEEST (UK).  The poetic and moving Dutch documentary SARINA and the darkly amusing Lithuanian film CUT!rounded out the jury-commended films at Filminute 2012.

3 million views in three weeks! The unlucky hedgehogs are a hit before Christmas. On December 13th Bird Box Studio release their Christmas card giving viewers the option to interact and choose the ending (almost). With over 10 million hits on all the videos involved, the twisted and unfortunate endings proved a popular twist to the standard festive messages.

Ant Blades was recently chosen by Variety magazine as one of the future talents of 2011. He sat on the panel at Annecy to discuss animation and answer questions about the success of Bird Box Studio and why the shorts are so popular at the moment.

This year at Annecy 2011, Ant Blades hosted an event giving tips on getting the most laughs from short films: talking through the crucial stages of developing comedy within screenplays – everything from coming up with ideas to comic timing and expression – using examples to explain how and why some hit the mark and others miss it.
